Since 1989 when we first opened our doors, Markham Fertility Centre (MFC) has been committed to maintaining personalized service. Our philosophy is simple: We aim to offer patient-specific treatment at the highest standard of care, while giving each patient direct and honest information.
We have an experienced multidisciplinary team that is committed to treating each of our patients as an individual – to us, you will never be just another number or the result of a statistic.
With each cycle, we believe that direct doctor-nurse-patient care is important. That means that the majority of the time, your doctor will be the one to review your daily blood and ultrasound results and you will see the same physician and nurse coordinator throughout your treatment cycle. This helps the doctor to fully understand how a patient’s body responds to medications and treatments which is vital when making accurate treatment decisions.
Our Medical Director, Dr. Michael Virro, BSc, MD, FRCS(C), was involved in one of the first IVF units in Toronto giving birth to his interest in infertility. He has built a team of experts at Markham Fertility Centre. Our committed staff members have worked over the years at the clinic to help thousands of patients achieve their dreams. Dr. Virro’s passion for providing ethical, innovative and effective treatments for his patients has cemented Markham Fertility Centre’s reputation as a Canadian leader in the field of infertility.
Assistant Medical Director, Dr. Meivys Garcia, Affiliated MFC Doctor Dr. Marta Wais and associates Dr. Colette Pyselman and Dr. Nathan Roth, have the combined skill and talent to offer a wide range of assisted reproductive procedures to help couples achieve a pregnancy.
In 2012, MFC designed and built a state-of-the-art 10,000 sq ft facility located on the campus of the Markham Stouffville Hospital. Our patients appreciate the convenience of having everything in one location. Patients can schedule appointments to see their physicians and have their daily blood tests/ultrasounds in the same facility as the procedure operating room and recovery area and embryology and andrology lab. MFC also provides onsite genetic counselling, immune testing and therapy and easy access to nutrition/psychosocial therapy in the same building.
In 2003, the MFC volunteered to be one of the first private infertility clinics in Canada to be reviewed for accreditation by the Canadian Council on Health Services (CCHS). This means that every 3 years, government inspectors perform an inspection to ensure we meet industry standards. This leads to an organizational culture of ensuring safety and quality in everything we do.
MFC has also voluntarily submitted our IVF data to the Canadian Assisted Reproductive Technologies Registry (CARTR) since the MFC’s inception. Year after year, MFC’s pregnancy and live birth rates have consistently been in the top percentages in Canada. We are also one of the country’s leading clinics for blastocyst transfer and single blastocyst transfer and frozen blastocyst transfer pregnancy rates.
MFC has a reputation for helping patients who have experienced previous IVF failures and/or recurrent miscarriage. MFC’s immune program is unique – no other Canadian facility offers these services to their patients. To learn more about immune factors that affect pregnancy and how they can be treated, please schedule an appointment with Dr. Virro, Dr. Garcia or Dr. Wais.
