Markham Fertility Centre Partners with Sprout Family: A Proudly Canadian Collaboration

At Markham Fertility Centre (MFC), we’ve always believed that building families is about more than science – it’s about trust, compassion, and community. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our new partnership with Sprout Family a Canadian digital concierge service dedicated to guiding individuals and couples through their family-building journeys. This collaboration not only enhances access to world-class fertility care but also reinforces our commitment to working with Canadian companies in an industry increasingly dominated by U.S. and foreign entities. Together, MFC and Sprout Family are proud to offer personalized, innovative, and distinctly Canadian solutions to help you achieve your dream of parenthood.

Why Partner with a Canadian Company?

In recent years, the Canadian fertility landscape has seen a growing presence of U.S. and international companies acquiring clinics.  While these entities bring resources, they often prioritize standardization over the personalized, patient-centered care that defines Canadian healthcare values. At MFC, we believe that fertility care should reflect the unique needs of our communities, from the diverse families of the Greater Toronto Area to the elite athletes we support through our partnership with the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario, and to those living in rural communities.

Sprout Family shares this vision. As a Canadian company, Sprout Family offers a digital platform that connects patients with trusted fertility clinics, provides educational resources, and helps navigate insurance and funding options—all tailored to the Canadian context. By partnering with Sprout Family, we’re ensuring that patients receive care rooted in local expertise, accessibility, and a deep understanding of Canada’s healthcare system, including provincial funding programs like Ontario’s Fertility Program. This collaboration keeps decision-making in Canadian hands, preserving the compassionate, inclusive ethos that has defined MFC for over 35 years.

Why are companies like Sprout Family important in Canada?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) remains the cornerstone of assisted reproductive technology, offering hope to countless families facing infertility. However, Canada’s lags other developed nations in IVF adoption rates.

CountryIVF cycles per 1 million population
Canada795 cycles/million (2015)
Israel5,711 cycles/million
Denmark3,575 cycles/million
United States of America1,250 cycles/million (2021)

This gap is largely due to limited public funding, high costs ($10,000–$20,000 per cycle), and uneven clinic access, particularly in provinces like Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island, which lack IVF facilities.

Unlike Denmark, which funds three IVF cycles, or Israel, which covers unlimited cycles until two children are born, Canada offers limited public support. Only a few provinces like Ontario, Manitoba, New Brunswick, BC, Quebec, and PEI, provide partial funding or tax credits.  This leaves most patients facing costs of $10,000–$20,000 per cycle, often out of reach without private insurance.

This is where Sprout Family steps in.  Private insurance in Canada rarely covers IVF costs completely. In the U.S., there has seen a surge in IVF adoption partly due to employer-funded fertility benefits, with 23% of large companies offering coverage. Canada lags in this area. But Sprout Family is changing that by advocating for Canadian companies to include fertility coverage in employee benefits and by educating employers about the value of supporting family-building. With companies like Sprout Family, we hope to see a growth in adoption of fertility benefits by companies and insurance carriers and that, together with public funding, the benefits will be adequate to support family building in its entirety.

At Markham Fertility Centre, we are proud to contribute to Canada’s IVF success story. Since 1989, we’ve helped over 12,000 families, delivering among the highest pregnancy rates in the country.  Choosing a Canadian partner like Sprout Family aligns with our mission to prioritize patient-centered care over profit-driven models. Unlike foreign-owned clinics, which may face pressure to maximize throughput, MFC and Sprout Family focus on individualized treatment plans, cultural sensitivity, and affordability.

Our partnership offers:

  • Seamless Navigation: Sprout Family’s digital concierge service connects patients with MFC’s comprehensive offerings, from IVF and intrauterine insemination (IUI) to egg freezing and donor programs, all while providing tailored guidance on funding and insurance.
  • Local Expertise: Both MFC and Sprout Family understand the nuances of Canada’s healthcare landscape, ensuring patients receive care that respects provincial regulations and community needs.
  • Inclusive Care: Our shared commitment to diversity means supporting all paths to parenthood, including for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, single parents, and those requiring surrogacy or donor services.

As we celebrate this partnership, we’re reminded of the trust that over 12,000 families have placed in MFC since 1989. Our female-led, physician-owned clinic, guided by Dr. Meivys Garcia, Dr. Marta Wais, and Dr. Crystal Chan, remains steadfast in its mission to make fertility care ethical, innovative, and accessible. With Sprout Family, we’re taking a bold step toward a future where every Canadian can build their family, free from the barriers of cost and distance.
