Hey there, young readers and parents alike! Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Thea Moreau, and by day, I’m a junior embryologist at Markham Fertility Centre, delving into the mysteries of biology. But by night (and any other free moment I can grab), I transform into something else entirely: a children’s author on a mission to demystify reproduction and fertility.

You might be wondering how someone with a background in biology ended up writing children’s books. Well, it all started with a passion for both science and storytelling. While working in the fascinating world of embryology, I realized that conversations around fertility and reproduction were often shrouded in discomfort and secrecy. I wanted to change that.

I believe that talking openly about reproduction from a young age can help remove stigma and empower individuals with knowledge. After all, reproduction is not just a biological process; it’s a fundamental aspect of life itself.

My journey as an author began with a burst of inspiration. I wrote my first book, “One in a Million,” in just one day, fuelled by excitement to share my knowledge with the world. Using my skills in design and illustration, I brought the story to life with the help of Canva, crafting colourful and engaging visuals to accompany the text.

From writing to publishing, the process took about six months through a self-publishing company. And now, I’m thrilled to say that “One in a Million” is out in the world, alongside its companion book, “One in a Million: An IUI Story.” These books aim to make the topics of fertility, reproduction, and fertility treatment options accessible and approachable for children and families alike.

But the journey doesn’t stop there. I’m currently hard at work on my next book, which will delve into the process of family building using conventional IVF. Stay tuned for more updates on that!

If you’re curious to learn more or get your hands on a copy of my books, head over to oneinamillionfertility.com. Let’s continue the conversation and break down barriers together.

Here’s to embracing the wonder and complexity of reproduction, one story at a time.
