Ways to Pay for Fertility Treatment
Fertility treatment funding in Ontario may be available through the Ontario Fertility Program, which publicly funds certain eligible fertility treatments, while the Ontario Fertility Treatment Tax Credit can help reduce eligible out-of-pocket fertility expenses. For treatments and services that are not publicly funded, patients may also have access to financing options, including Humm, to help make fertility care more manageable.
October 2025 - NEWS! Markham Fertility Centre is pleased to announce that it has received additional funding as part of the province's $250 million commitment to improving fertility access.
We are ready;
With 30+ years of experience and over 13,000 children born through Markham Fertility Centre, we are up to the task of improving access and shortening wait times.
We have been strengthening our clinic to accommodate more funded IVF cycles without compromising the high quality care, service, and outcomes that our patients have come to expect.
With locations and affiliates in Markham, Barrie-Innisfil, Sudbury, Orillia, and Whitby-Oshawa, we are ready to serve northern Ontario and deliver on our promise to improve access without additional cost.
The NEW Ontario Fertility Treatment Tax Credit: Effective January 1, 2025, Ontario introduced a refundable tax credit to help with fertility costs. Patients can recover up to $5,000/year for expenses related to their fertility treatment.
Ontario Fertility Tax Credit

This funding is critical because fertility treatments can be prohibitively expensive, an IVF cycle in Ontario can cost $10,000 to $20,000, excluding medications. Public funding allows more equitable access, especially for:
- Individuals with medical infertility
- LGBTQ+ and single-parent families
- Cancer patients preserving fertility before treatment
Additionally, a new Ontario Fertility Tax Credit, beginning January 1, 2025, Ontario residents can claim a refundable tax credit worth 25% of eligible fertility-related expenses, up to $5,000 annually (based on up to $20,000 in eligible treatment costs). Source: Ontario Budget 2024
It supports:
- IVF cycles, fertility medications, diagnostic testing
- Egg/sperm retrieval and preservation (including storage)
- Donor gamete access and travel associated with treatment
- Applicable even if you don’t owe income tax (refundable) and in addition to existing medical expense credits. Sources: Ontario Budget, toronto.ctvnews.ca
Fertility is a vital public health and social issue in Ontario. With provincial support through public funding and tax relief, more people—regardless of background or income—are now able to access the reproductive care they need to grow their families.
How does fertility funding in Ontario work?
“Ontario offers a program that provides funding to participating fertility clinics across the province to cover treatment costs for eligible residents. After learning about treatments and what’s covered below, talk to one of the clinics or your doctor to decide what treatment might be best for you”.
OHIP Fertility Coverage: Who Qualifies for OHIP Fertility Coverage?

Fertility Funding Ontario: Additional financial support options
humm and Markham Fertility Centre are making fertility treatments more accessible. It is our mission to help individuals and couples achieve their dream of becoming parents. We are acutely aware that the cost of treatment can be a barrier for many. In fact, many have to defer treatment - or even forgo treatment altogether - due to the financial demands. To help with the financial aspects of care, Markham Fertility Centre has partnered with humm to offer a more competitive and user-friendly platform to finance their treatment. Humm's rates and terms are superior to other financing companies that focus on medical care.
The online application is quick and easy. Contact us if you would like more information or to learn more about humm fertility financing. Learn more about the program.

Ontario’s fertility funding framework—via OHIP and the upcoming tax credit—offers a significant support structure for residents seeking reproductive care. While public funding covers core treatments like IVF and IUI, the tax credit further reduces out-of-pocket expenses. With expanding clinic access and ongoing investments, Ontario aims to make fertility care more accessible, equitable, and affordable.
