Dr. Meivys Garcia graduated with her medical degree from the University of Western Ontario, where she also did a five year subspecialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her passion then lead her to pursue a two year Royal College fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, with specially training in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery as it applies to infertility. Throughout her training, Dr. Garcia was the recipient of many prestigious awards. These include, but are not limited to, the Governor General Academic Medal, the Institute of Medical Science Academic Award, the Medical Biophysics Academic Award, the Helen Mildred Allison Academic Award, University of Western Ontario Excellence in Endoscopy Award and the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Academic Proficiency Award, which is given to the top resident of the graduating class. She has also been recognized for her research winning the Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health Research Award and the Paul Harding Research Award, for two consecutive years.
Her main research interests are in the area of unexplained infertility, immunological disorders leading to subfertility and fertility enhancing surgery. Her affiliation with the Markham Stouffville Hospital allows her the benefit of performing surgery on her patients, including septum repair.
Dr. Garcia is currently a member of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, The Ontario Medical Association, The Canadian Medical Association, The Society of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist of Canada, Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society, The American Colleague of Obstetrician Gynaecologist and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Garcia joined the Markham Fertility Centre in 2011 where she continues to provide state of the art, exceptional and comprehensive care to her patients. She is also pleased to be able to offer obstetrical care for her patients who have conceived through fertility treatments.
