About Pregnancy Loss
Egg freezing, or oocyte cryopreservation, allows for greater autonomy in childbearing than was possible even just five years ago. Egg freezing is a process in which eggs (oocytes) are extracted, frozen and stored as a method to preserve reproductive potential. The technique is becoming more common today, with some companies even offering coverage through their insurance plans. The technique has advanced greatly over the past few years, with improved overall success rates, enabling greater choice and control over a person’s reproductive future.

You haven’t met the right partner yet are approaching 35 years old
-

-
You have a medical need that has the potential to affect fertility (see our section on fertility preservation for medical need)

An egg freezing cycle typically takes 2-3 weeks to complete. Some patients may benefit from multiple cycles. The decision on how many cycles you choose will depend on your family goals (how many children you wish you have), The number of eggs produced during a retrieval, and the quality of your eggs.

Ovarian Stimulation (10-12 days)
Stimulating your ovaries to produce eggs typically lasts 10-12 days. During this time you will be taking injectable medications and will have 3-5 in-person morning appointments at the clinic where we will monitor your hormones and measure ovaries using a vaginal ultrasound. Your physician will closely monitor your stimulation to ensure the optimal number of eggs.
Egg Retreival (~Day 12)

The egg retrieval itself is done under deep sedation with an anesthesiologist to ensure your safety and comfort and last only 20 minutes. The procedure lasts approximately 20-minutes. You may experience minor discomfort after the procedure. Most patients resume normal activities the next day.
