Counselling and Support: Balanced and Holistic Support

Embarking on a journey through assisted reproduction can stir a whirlwind of emotions. At Markham Fertility Centre, we believe in nurturing your mental and emotional wellbeing just as much as your physical health. Our mission is to empower and support you throughout this journey, ensuring you feel valued and understood, whatever the outcome may be. Here’s how we pledge our commitment:

Active listening.  You're the protagonist of your unique story; we're here to play the supporting role. We'll lend an empathetic ear, taking all the time necessary to truly understand your feelings and concerns. Feel free to ask, clarify, or share. We are here to listen without judgment.

Transparent Communication.  Transparency is paramount, especially in fertility care. We provide clear, honest insights about your treatment options, expected results, and any uncertainties. This approach equips you to make well-informed decisions tailored to your unique journey.

Connections to Expert Counsel.  The road of fertility treatment can sometimes benefit from guidance beyond medical expertise. Recognizing the importance of counselling & support, we’ll introduce you to accomplished counsellors and psychologists who have a deep understanding of fertility challenges and the nuances of assisted reproduction.

Trauma-Informed Care.  Everyone has their own backstory, and we approach each patient with that in mind. Not everyone has experienced trauma, but we'll never make presumptions. Our team is trained to offer compassionate care, appreciating the uniqueness of your experiences.

Building Trustworthy Relationships.  Your trust is invaluable. We're committed to forging a robust patient-doctor bond, recognizing our duty to offer both personal care from our in-house team and collaborate with community partners to ensure holistic support.

At Markham Fertility Centre, your well-being is our priority, and we’re devoted to standing by your side at every step of your fertility journey.

Counselling & Support requires balance

Resources

The following counsellors specialize in fertility and related counselling. We encourage you to explore your options and find the right fit for you.

Support Groups

Support groups provide a comforting space where individuals can share experiences, offer insights, and find solace among peers facing similar challenges. Here are some support groups we recommend.

2SLGBTQIA+ Resources

Embarking on the journey of assisted reproduction is emotionally intense, and it can feel even more overwhelming when you don’t fit the conventional mold. At Markham Fertility Centre, we celebrate diversity and are committed to making your family-building experience joyous and inclusive. While we offer unwavering support, there are also valuable community resources available to enhance your journey.

Please find some recommendations below, such as at Fertility Matters and Sherbourne Health. If you have others to share, we'd be delighted to hear your suggestions.

Fertility Coaching

Engaging with a fertility coach is an emerging trend among those navigating infertility, offering additional layers of physical, mental, and emotional guidance. While there's no standardized qualification for a fertility coach, starting your search with those holding coaching certificates may be beneficial. It's important to note that Markham Fertility Centre neither endorses any particular coach nor claims coaching as an essential component. That said, we're aware of several fertility coaches and are happy to share their information with you.

Non-Profit Fertility Organizations

Non profit organizations play an important role in Canada and Ontario when it comes to fertility. They are mostly patient-driven and focus on areas related to patient advocacy, financial support, and education. They can also be a great resource for networking and connecting with others that are also in your shoes.
